Adelaide Radiotherapy Centre provides all patients who require nutritional support with two free group dietitian sessions. These sessions are held on site weekly by Nutrition Professionals Australia, a team of qualified dietitians, who provide information on adequate nutrition throughout treatment, fighting digestive problems associated with cancer and treatment, maintaining weight and making eating easier.

Nutrition throughout treatment is important, and attending these sessions can provide patients with specific dietary information when receiving radiation therapy.

Alternatively, an individual appointment can be arranged with a dietitian which incurs a fee. A proportion of this fee may be claimable from some private health providers.

Radiation therapists will advise patients who are likely to require or benefit from this service at the planning appointment.

Patients concerned about their nutritional needs can ask a radiation therapist or oncology nurse about this service at any time during their course of treatment.

Most patients receiving radiation therapy to the head and neck region require dental attention, as oral hygiene is of utmost importance.

Adelaide Radiotherapy Centre works in conjunction with three dentists in Adelaide. At the Royal Adelaide Dental Hospital, oncology specialists Dr. Richard Logan and Dr. Liz Coate, and at Flinders Medical Centre Dental Outpatient Clinic, oncology specialist Dr. Ron Czernezkyj. All three specialists are experienced in meeting the needs of patients requiring head and neck radiation therapy.

The Cancer Council of South Australia provides affordable accommodation for patients from the country at Greenhill Lodge and Seaview Lodge. For more information regarding accommodation sites, transport, and other allied services Greenhill Lodge booking office should be contacted. The 'patient accommodation' section of the web site of The Cancer Council of South Australia may also be helpful.

It is advisable that bookings are made as soon as possible to ensure a room. For many short treatment courses, treatment may start immediately. Radical courses of treatment usually begin between 1-4 weeks after the planning appointment. The radiation oncologist or radiation therapist can give an accurate treatment starting date once the planning appointment has been made.
